TRIBUN-TIMUR.COM, PALOPO – A massive fire destroyed two houses on Jalan Dr. Ratulangi, Salo Bulo Village, Wara Utara District, Palopo City, South Sulawesi, on Thursday evening (June 18, 2026). One of the buildings that burned was a two-story permanent house that was being used as a boarding house. The incident is suspected to have been triggered by a child playing with matches in the bedroom, which set the mattress on fire. The fire then grew and spread to other parts of the building. The Head of the Evacuation and Rescue Section of the Palopo City Fire Department, Muhammad Nur Tandiwajang, said that initial information received by officers indicated that a small child was playing with fire inside the house. "According to the information we received, the fire was caused by a child playing with matches in the room, which set the mattress on fire. The fire then grew and caused a fairly large fire," he explained.
