Before writer-politician Shashi Tharoor made his presence felt at The Hindu’s annual literary extravaganza Lit for Life on January 18, celebrated novelist Abraham Varghese set the stage up for his arrival. “Shashi, I was telling everyone that I’m just the warm up act before you get on stage. You’re one of the best public speakers I know,” he said, addressing him from the dais. In a matter of 50 minutes, Mr. Tharoor proved Mr. Varghese right.
