📍 Fort 48a "Mistrzejowice" One of the lesser-known but very atmospheric sites of the former Kraków Fortress. Built between 1895 and 1897 as an auxiliary armored fort, it was intended to support the defense of the city's northeastern outskirts. Four armored towers with 8 cm M.94 cannons, earthen ramparts, a moat, and a caponier defend the entrance – a small but modern structure for its time. Today it's a peaceful, green area, but over 100 years ago, approximately 180 soldiers – infantry and artillery – were stationed here, ready to defend Kraków. This time we had the unique opportunity to take a look inside 👀 The fort is normally closed, so the opportunity to enter the interior and see the casemates, the raw concrete corridors, and the site of the former armored towers is a completely different experience than walking around the ramparts. The austere architecture, the coolness of the concrete, and the awareness of history are truly impressive. After years of neglect, the building recently underwent renovation and is slowly regaining its rightful place on the map of Krakow.
