Jaisalmer Fort | Sonar Kella | | Asia's Largest Living Fort |
Today is 7th March. After an overnight train journey from Jodhpur, I reached Jaisalmer at 9:00 AM and checked into Hotel Ghoomer. After lunch and getting refreshed, I started exploring the legendary Jaisalmer Fort – the famous Sonar Kella. For Bengalis, Sonar Kella is not just a fort; it is a piece of our childhood memories. Thanks to the iconic film "Sonar Kella" by Satyajit Ray, this place holds a special emotional connection for every Bengali traveler. 🏰 Jaisalmer Fort Facts: ✅ Built in 1156 AD by Rawal Jaisal ✅ UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013 ✅ One of the world's very few Living Forts, where thousands of people still live inside ✅ Built on Trikuta Hill, about 250 ft above the city ✅ Length: 1,500 ft (457 m) ✅ Width: 750 ft (229 m) ✅ 99 Bastions (Burj) ✅ 4 Main Gates – Akhai Pol, Suraj Pol, Ganesh Pol & Hawa Pol ✅ Known as Sonar Quila / Golden Fort because of its golden-yellow sandstone architecture In this vlog, I explored: 🔸 Raj Mahal (Royal Palace Museum) 🔸 Stunning viewpoints from the top of the fort 🔸 Narrow golden lanes of Sonar Kella 🔸 Jain Temples 🔸 Historic gates and bastions 🔸 Amazing panoramic views of the Golden City 🎟️ Raj Mahal Museum Entry: Camera charges may be applicable separately (subject to current rules). Walking just 1 km from Hotel Ghoomer, I finally stood inside the fort I had dreamed of visiting since childhood. It felt like stepping into the pages of Feluda and Mukul's adventure. If you love history, Rajasthan, travel, or are a fan of Satyajit Ray, this vlog is for you.
