The castle has been owned by the Kinsky family since the mid-20th century. Netty Kinsky grew up in Heidenreichstein with her siblings. For her, the castle remains a home and a place of refuge, and she has many fond memories associated with the ancient walls. Some of these memories were captured by her father, Christian Kinsky, on Super 8 film, which are shown in the documentary. Karl Hohenlohe is guided through the family history and the rooms of the castle by Netty Kinsky. Along the way, he encounters prominent family members such as Maria von Ebner-Eschenbach, Bertha von Suttner, and, most notably, Rudolf von der Straten, the first director of the Spanish Riding School after 1918. It was Straten who inherited the castle from his friend Landislaus Pallfy after World War II and then bequeathed it to his daughter, Netty Kinsky's mother, who married Christian Kinsky, who had been expelled from Czechoslovakia.
