The reason is because in measure 14 he slaps those notes right before going into the first Verse. You can see him do this in a behind the scenes clip from the self-titled album. Not "The making of", it's a different one, I forget the name of the video. Anyways, I don't care to play fingerstyle, I'm a pick guy, and I wasn't going to slap those few notes and play the rest in pick style, that didn't make any sense to me (since I wasn't going to record the cover fingerstyle) So I just pick those notes instead.
