Reflexive pronouns and Emphatic pronouns are two types of pronouns that are often confused with each other due to their similarities in form . However, they serve distinct grammatical purposes and are used in different contexts. Reflexive pronouns, such as myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, and themselves, are used to refer back to the subject of a sentence or clause. They indicate that the subject is also the recipient of the action described by the verb. For example: "I cut myself while shaving" or "She bought herself a gift." In these sentences, the reflexive pronouns "myself" and "herself" refer back to the subjects "I" and "she," respectively. On the other hand, Emphatic Pronouns, also known as Intensive Pronouns, are used to add emphasis or stress to a sentence. They are identical in form to reflexive pronouns but serve a different purpose. Emphatic pronouns are used to highlight the importance or uniqueness of the noun or pronoun they modify. For example: "I myself will attend the meeting" or "She herself made the cake." In these sentences, the emphatic pronouns "myself" and "herself" add emphasis to the subjects "I" and "she," respectively.
