1966 Ford Galaxie, Barn Find to Car Show in 7 Days
Turn on subtitles if you want to follow along with everything I’m doing in this video in greater detail. I recently picked up this 1966 Ford Galaxie LTD equipped with a 4-barrel 390, a C6 automatic transmission, 31-spline axles, and a Limited Slip Diff. The car was a one-owner vehicle. It was purchased new just a few hours away from my hometown back in 1966. The vehicle was treated as an old man's "personal vehicle" — his kids weren't even allowed to ride in it. After he passed away, the car sat for what I believe was a little over 10 years (possibly even a little longer). His sons had attempted to get the car running again, which I could tell because the vehicle had a brand-new set of spark plug wires installed. I'm not sure why they never replaced the spark plugs as well, but I was thankful for the new wires. It also appears that someone had installed a new exhaust system and brake lines over 10 years ago. The positive and negative battery cables were connected backward in terms of color sequence. I believe this is why the negative terminal was over-clamped, causing me to break it, and it was also likely the reason the alternator was damaged. As you can tell in the video, this car cleaned up amazingly well. The interior is mint, and the paint is still in great condition. Once I started working on the project, I realized there was a large car show coming up nearby. My dad pitched in and helped me as we rushed to get the car ready within just 7 days. The car ended up receiving a score of 76/100. It would have scored higher if I had more time to detail the engine bay, but the deadline made that impossible. In the end, the car still won a plaque trophy, and I think that is quite an accomplishment. A lot of people at the show were surprised to learn that the car had just been pulled out of a barn, and it quickly became one of the attractions of the event. Unfortunately, the last half of the show was rained out, but overall, it was still a success. I hope you all enjoyed the video. I would love to continue working on this car in the future. The exhaust pipes are uneven (one is actually longer than the other), and I'd like to convert it to disc brakes, install new springs, and replace some of the chrome and trim pieces around the vehicle. All in all, it is a beautiful car, a real head-turner, and I'm very proud to have been able to bring it back to life.
