Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, often diagnosed late, can manifest with a dry cough, shortness of breath, and a progressive reduction in lung capacity. Experts emphasize that an accurate diagnosis requires a multidisciplinary team: pulmonologists, radiologists, rheumatologists, pathologists, and pulmonary rehabilitation professionals. In this article, we explore: • the initial symptoms that should not be underestimated, especially after age 60; • key tests such as respiratory function tests and high-definition CT scans; • the possible genetic component and risk factors such as smoking and pollution; • new medications that promise to improve the management of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis; • the importance of networking between hub and spoke centers for equitable and timely care.
