BMW E90/N52 VANOS Oil Check Valves | Cleaning & DIY Maintenance (E90, E60, E70, E85, E83)

If you own a BMW with the N52 engine, you may run into VANOS issues caused by clogged oil check valve screens. In this video, I show you how to locate, remove, and clean the VANOS oil check valves (non return valves) on my BMW E90 using simple tools and brake cleaner. These oil check valves sit on the side of the cylinder head and play a crucial role in keeping oil in the cylinder head for proper VANOS operation. Over time, debris can clog the check valves, leading to VANOS error codes, poor performance, and rough idle. Cleaning them is an easy DIY fix that can save you from bigger headaches later.
