A few days on the island of Santorini with a guest star. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are the "Outsiders." We traveled extensively during our professional years. But we traveled like ordinary tourists. This means that as soon as we had a sufficient budget and at least seven days (sometimes fifteen) to spare, we would head off to the ends of the earth to explore, at lightning speed, a country or a region. We didn't miss a thing! Everything was planned, thought out, scheduled, almost timed. In fact, we missed everything! It's true that we saw wonders, but without truly connecting with them. We met people, but without getting to know them better. We made discoveries, but without learning their history. We encountered other cultures, but without understanding them. At the time, we thought it was fantastic, but it still left us with a bitter taste of incompleteness. Today, looking back, we know that true travel is about taking your time and immersing yourself completely, with a general plan, of course, but letting yourself be guided by events, encounters, challenges, wonder, the unexpected—life itself! Our age and family situation mean that we now have the opportunity to travel the world this way. So that's what we're doing! Our initial plan was to explore every continent in our pickup truck, spending six or seven months a year on it, for about ten years. COVID-19 disrupted our dream a bit, but it didn't cancel it. Exploring some places will be delayed, of course… but we'll get there eventually.
