Ivan Stolyar: Those Were The Days Дорогой длинною (2008)

Ivan Stolyar sings By the Long Road or Дорогой длинною by Boris Fomin; the song known in the West as Those Were the Days. He sings as guest soloist of the Alexandrov Ensemble during its Quebec tour of 2008. This is the soloist with the best chance of continuing the tradition of the great bass-baritone of the Ensemble, Leonid Kharitonov. Stolyar is powerful enough, is disciplined enough and consistent enough, and above all his musicality is right. I watch for his future recordings, and hope that he records some of Kharitonov's famous repertoire. He has already sung Эй, ухнем (Song of the Volga Boatmen) at Bratislava 2010 in the manner of Kharitonov. Go Stolyar!
