In today’s edition of Sounds From Afar, Felix Appiah reacts to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s call for the prosecution of an NDC organizer accused of making offensive remarks against him to be discontinued. Dr. Bawumia stated that he did not initiate or authorize the case and appealed to the Ghana Police Service and the Attorney-General to end the prosecution, arguing that offensive speech should be answered with better speech and falsehood with the truth—not arrests and harsh bail conditions. Felix Appiah, however, accuses the Mahama-led NDC government of attempting to create a false balance between this case and the recent arrests and imprisonment of people accused of criticizing the government. According to him, the prosecution is being used to suggest that both the NPP and NDC treat political critics in the same manner.
