Polwarth 4 Ways: Woollen, Worsted, 2 vs. 3ply
G'day FleeceFolk! This week we have Polwarth on the menu (huzzah!). This Jan I came across Ash Trebilco and her flock of Polwarths in the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. I was so impressed with the staple lengths on these babies that I had to see it for myself. This video documents an attempt at sampling this fleece 4 different ways: woollen, worsted, 2ply and 3ply and I must say I was very surprised with the results! I have left a lot of wheel clickety clackety in this video (I just love the sound of it - it's meditative!). I've also left in a lot of 'secondary' footage to show you how I adjust into a spin. It's never a hop and go operation (and I love that!) I hope you enjoy this experiment and I'd love to hear about how you prefer to spin Polwarth. The possibilities are endless! Find Osiris Polwarths here: Facebook: / 61581804136338 Instagram: / osiris.polwarths Scour recipe: 1. Fill laundry sink with hottest tap water + 1 fresh boiled kettle + 1.5 tbsp of Unicorn PowerScour 2. Lower lightly packed laundry bags of fleece (I do ~400g at a time) 3. Soak covered (to retain heat) for 15-20 minutes 4. Repeat steps 1-3 three times 5. Rinse twice in hot tap water 6. Squeeze all water out of laundry bags and spin for 2 mins on a dry cycle (only if you have a top loader machine!) 7. Lay out to dry Scouring recommended by the Black and Coloured Sheep Breeders Association of NZ: https://www.colouredsheep.org.nz/spin...
