The Kobe Gakuin University entrance ceremony was held on the 7th at the World Memorial Hall in Chuo-ku, Kobe City, with approximately 2,600 undergraduate and graduate students in attendance. At the ceremony, Kaori Sakamoto (25), a graduate of the university and a leading figure in Japanese women's figure skating, took the stage to encourage the new students. Kaori Sakamoto said, "I hope you will have fulfilling days during these four years, so do everything you want to do without any regrets." Sakamoto won a silver medal at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics and achieved a record four World Championship titles in March, the most by any Japanese skater. Having retired from competitive skating, she plans to pursue a career as a coach. Kaori Sakamoto: "(I'm still in touch with my university friends) They come to watch my competitions and ice shows, they contact me before and after competitions, and because we're from different generations, we go to various people's weddings. I feel like the time has finally come when what I learned at university will be put to good use in my life from now on, so I feel like my learning is giving me strength."
