What are Overlayfs and Magic Mount in the KernelSU Root settings? They generally relate to how software and add-ons are installed on the system to modify it without needing to modify the System partition, thus preventing detection of the modifications. Each of these techniques uses a specific installation method. The default Magic Mount uses the same Magisk technology to install software and add-ons on the system. Overlayfs, on the other hand, uses a newer, but unstable, technique for installing software and add-ons on the system. This newer technique may cause problems with some add-ons, preventing them from functioning correctly or potentially leading to root detection. It's important to know that switching between Magic Mount and Overlayfs will delete all your add-ons, requiring reinstallation. Note that if you switch between the two techniques and the add-ons aren't deleted, you can delete them manually. Regarding installation modes in this root, there are two: GKI and LKM. You'll find them next to the root status at the top of the Root Manager page after activation. GKI is implemented by building a kernel so that the original kernel is replaced with another kernel. Its advantages are that it does not depend on the system and supports most devices, if not all, even if they have strong protections like Samsung, and with high comprehensiveness. For example, I built a kernel with system version 13 and kernel number 2, and my device is Samsung. If someone else has a Xiaomi with version 13 and kernel number 2, they can use this kernel. This is the meaning of comprehensiveness. It accepts the enhancer (susfs), and its function is to improve root hiding to a greater extent. But when updating, the kernel must be rebuilt, and this is its drawback. As for LKM, it depends on the system, like Magisk. It needs either boot, init_boot, or vendor_boot, and it does not replace the original kernel. Installation is done through the application. Its advantages are that it is easy to install and update because everything is done through the application. However, its drawbacks are that it is specific to a particular device, meaning it cannot be shared with others, and it does not support all devices. Some devices with high security, such as Samsung, may not be able to use the method until changes are made to the original kernel, and it does not accept the enhanced (susfs).
