Godless Secularism: Europe, India, and Religion
NEW YORK, September 15, 2018 — Since the 1980s, it has been common to discuss the rise of religious fundamentalism in governance and the attendant crisis faced by secularism. However, Oxford University scholar Faisal Devji argues that it is the waning of religion in society that causes us to question our ideas of modernity. In a lecture delivered as part of Asia Society's Season of India, Devji examines what the crisis of religion looks like in Europe and whether Indian history has anything to say about the current moment.
