Injuries and the political climate completely defined his career. The USSR delayed his move to the United States for years, and when he finally arrived with the Portland Trail Blazers, he was already physically worn down. Even so, he managed to compete against some of the best big men in history and was a key piece of a Blazers team that contended for the championship. Beyond titles or statistics, Sabonis left behind one of the biggest "what ifs" in NBA history.
