Santa Cruz de Mompox 🇨🇴 | Trades, Swamps, and Daily Life | A Journey with Purpose (Part 2) In this second part of my experience in Santa Cruz de Mompox, we continue to delve into the life of the region, the traditional trades, and the landscapes that surround this unique place in the Colombian Caribbean. We started the day with a boat trip to El Horno, a village across from Mompox, to help build a dollhouse using traditional techniques. Together with Rufino and his family, we worked with materials like palm, wood, and rattan, creating woven structures that allow the passage of wind and light, respecting the climate and the local building practices. During the process, we built walls, a small table, and a bookshelf, understanding how knowledge is transmitted through hands-on experience, while the girls began to inhabit the space we were creating. Later, we returned to town to continue the co-creation sessions, this time in a place called Duitama, ending the day with a breathtaking sunset over the river. The trip continued with a journey to the Pijiño del Carmen Marsh, visiting the town, taking a boat ride, and learning about traditional cast net fishing. On the way back, we observed local wildlife, such as howler monkeys, and continued exploring the relationship between nature and daily life. We also visited several of Mompox's historic churches, strolled along the boardwalk and through Jazz Park, and witnessed the ceramic firing process in Eberto's workshop, understanding the importance of fire and control in artisanal production.
