Manning rose to fame after publicly disclosing classified documents revealing human rights abuses and corruption connected to the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. She is a vocal advocate for government transparency and queer and transgender rights, and speaks on the social, technological, and economic ramifications of Artificial Intelligence. Manning served 7 years in military prison for her actions and was released in 2017 after President Barack Obama commuted her sentence. She has since run for political office, been the subject of a documentary film, and worked for Nymtech, a privacy-oriented technology project.
