This latest edition, thoroughly revised by the competent scholar, Mr. Donald Attwater, has been prepared in response to the growing demand for accurate information about the chosen ones proposed for our veneration and emulation. These pages are eloquent witnesses that holiness is attained not precisely through the extraordinary, but through the ordinary, extraordinarily accomplished. Love for Christ is what definitively propels us toward our ultimate goal: the beatific vision of God. These inspiring accounts also demonstrate that holiness—the highest and noblest of all vocations—is not a rare privilege of a few, but the destiny of all. This gallery of illustrious saints confirms the democratic nature of the Kingdom of God, for holiness is not the monopoly of any race or profession. These volumes demonstrate beyond a doubt that holiness is a vocation for everyone, everywhere.
