Autodesk Inventor Tutorial #34 – Shell Feature Explained Welcome back to another Autodesk Inventor Professional tutorial! In this video, we dive deep into the Shell feature found under the Modify menu. If you've been following our previous exercises—especially the 4-inch planter pot—you'll recall how we used the Shell tool to hollow out a solid part by removing a face and maintaining a uniform wall thickness. We'll start by creating a basic 3D cube and applying the Shell command step-by-step. You'll learn how to: Use the Shell feature to create hollow parts Remove one or more faces to open the geometry Adjust wall thickness interactively using the arrow preview Understand the difference between inside, outside, and both-sided shelling Use the Automatic Face Chain option for complex, filleted surfaces Compare Shell with Extrude Cut for simpler geometries Avoid design failures caused by shelling after fillets and how to fix them with feature reordering We also revisit a vase model created using the Loft feature to demonstrate how Shell excels when dealing with complex and curved surfaces. Whether you're designing a shampoo bottle, a vase, or any non-uniform part, mastering the Shell feature is essential for hollowing out parts with precision.
