Warumpi Band Doco - From the Bush
We go deep into the wilds of Arnhem Land and the Central Desert to meet the legendary members of the Warumpi band and follow them to Sydney where they record their new album. Concerts in Nimbin, Northern NSW and La Perouse, Sydney are epic time capsules. This rare gem gives an insight in to one of Australia's most popular and enduring Indigenous bands. From Neil Murray : The Warumpi Band were formed in Papunuya, Northern Territory in 1980. The band's name derives from the honey-ant dreaming site “Warumpi" located near the settlement of Papunya which is 260km west of Alice Springs. Original founding members were Sammy Butcher, Gordon Butcher (deceased), Neil Murray, George Rrurrambu (deceased) assisted by other young men in the community. It's pretty much director Rachel Perkins first broadcast film. David Batty (Rebel Films) shot most of the content along with a young Warwick Thornton and John Whitteron. Sound is a bit ropey but hey...its lived deep in the archive for 30 years. *This film contains images of Aboriginal people who have passed away.
