In this discussion we will look at Masonic seals, a rather interesting and relatively understudied topic outside of specialized circles. They can take on different forms and functions within Freemasonry, depending on the era, rite, and jurisdiction. In general terms, a Masonic seal is a graphic mark used to identify a Lodge, Grand Lodge, Obedience, Masonic authority, or even a specific Freemason. Its function is similar to that of heraldic seals, coats of arms, or signets used by civil, religious, and noble institutions.
