UMassFive Member Stories - Francesca DenHartog

Francesca's Member Story: umassfive.coop/our-community/umassfive-member-stories/francesca-denhartog Valley Fabrics first opened its doors in 2004, serving the quilting and sewing community in Northampton, Massachusetts, for five years before recently relocating to a new home in South Deerfield. In 2018, the shop reopened with a renewed mission to bring color, creativity, and community to the Pioneer Valley. They cater to quilters, crafters, and clothing creators with a modern selection of cotton, knits, linens, rayons, canvas, and more. They also offer books, notions, patterns, fabric precuts, quilt kits, thread, and floss. Their services include classes, events, long-arm quilting, machine repair, and BERNINA machines and accessories. Owner Francesca DenHartog, a lifelong sewist and former US Lacrosse Team member, brings her graphic design background and love of color to the shop. Inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2010, Francesca often jokes, "Quilting is a contact sport!"
