Hand Drill Plug w/ David Holladay | TJack Survival
This summer, Dave and Tyler were teaching and came across a concept that we wanted to explore further. They were out in the middle of nowhere, when they came across a mullein shard that could be used for a hand drill plug. The idea for the hand drill came from a class that they attended to create a hand-drawn plug. It was explained to Tyler, along with some others back then, that white people had lost their connection with hand drill fires because they were forced to use the bow drill instead of the hand drill. In this video, he’s using the reverse grip technique because “it is more fluent” for him. He has a blade in his hand and is holding it up to his biceps. You get a lot of power and leverage without putting in much effort. If you consider the overall survival situation, you want to make a fire as soon as possible. As you are strolling through the bushes, you will likely come across a shard of mullen stock or a stub of willow. In order to run your hand drill correctly, you will require something that is straight and hard that has been cut and can be split open, as well as some natural cordage attached to the backside. You can use something similar to processed cottonwood roots or more cotton roots in their natural state. Before using the cordage, you must smoothen it out a bit. Yucca’s leaves could be used to tie your stick together, but you can use a piece of your shirt if you have nothing else to pull it together. Now that you've got your stick, how are you going to get the stick to work into your plug? The key is to not make your plug into a square but to make it a diamond or like a tipped-over box. The other thing that you start to learn after you've done this trick a few times is that you can't make it a really steep angle. You’ll have to stretch it out a lot and you can't make it too deep or you end up having your stick eating your plug. #handdrill #primitiveskills #primitivefirestarting #survivaldispatch #uncertaintimes #survivalgear #beprepared #prepperlife #nightvision #offthegrid #grayman #prepper #survival #bugout #knives #solar #guns #shtf #ifak #edc #fak -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Survival Dispatch HQ: http://survivaldispatch.com Survival Gear: http://gear.survivaldispatch.com Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/mx7x3s5x IG: / survivaldispatch FB: / survivaldispatch Support our sponsors ...
