Ken objects but Val wants her independence. Ray takes on Alan's salon conversion contract. Emily agrees to care for Dickie and Ray allowing Audrey a break to Ray's dismay as he enjoyed having a nubile woman looking after him. Hilda (Jean Alexander) receives news from Australia that Irma's (Sandra Gough) returning to Weatherfield for Christmas.
