I'll do my best to share information that will be useful to anyone studying networking. -Study Notes- GARP ARPing your own IP address Detects duplicate assigned IP addresses Forces ARP cache updates Used in router redundancy technologies such as VRRP Proxy ARP Protocol that proxyes ARP responses Efficiently resolves the inconvenience of subnet definitions From the maintenance PC, 192.168.0.254 is determined to be on your own network An ARP request is sent via broadcast, but because broadcasts cannot reach routers, the ARP is blocked by the router. Proxy ARP solves the above problem. Reverse ARP Finds an IP address from a MAC address. It is used when a thin client device starts up and transmits its MAC address to obtain an IP address. It is not used much these days because DHCP is used, but it is sometimes used in environments where DHCP is not available. -Study Notes-
