This video is about a gold panning topic that many underestimate: gold in clay. I, Paul from GoldSax, am back at a small stream where I've found gold several times before. The special thing about this stream is that some of the gold isn't just loose in the gravel, but is bound in solid layers of clay. That's precisely why I'm testing a method this time that a viewer recommended: dissolving the clay with a mortar mixer attached to a cordless drill, and then processing the material with the gold sluice box. I'm using a GoldSax Hunter 100 gold sluice box. I'll also show you the matching sluice box feet or stands, which allow you to stably position the sluice box in the stream. Especially when working with larger quantities of material, clay, and a sluice box, a clean and stable sluice box is crucial to ensure controlled water flow, incline, and material flow. In the video, I demonstrate my gold panning process step by step: I dig specifically in a clay pocket, sift the material, collect lumps of clay, dissolve them first in the gold pan, and then process larger quantities in the sluice box. The clay-rich material then runs through the GoldSax Hunter 100. I explain why clay can be valuable for gold prospecting, how to identify different layers in a stream, and why color changes in the material are important. The clay changes from brownish to gray, the stones from the depths become cleaner, and these changes can indicate old, relatively undisturbed layers. Gold can concentrate in these layers. The video also covers how gold behaves in a sluice box: why heavier material settles earlier, why a prospecting area is useful, and how to check during the process whether the material actually contains gold. I'll also show you how to dissolve clay in the pan, what to pay attention to when washing, and how to make the gold flakes visible in the end.
