BMW iX1 v's Tesla Model Y v's Volvo XC40 - Family SUVs on test on the SW660

Just over a year ago, we pitched the then new BMW i4 against the Tesla Model 3 and the Polestar 2 in the battle of the all-electric sports saloons. This year the compact SUV is now the preferred choice, and so their SUV equivalents take centre stage as the new BMW iX1 wades into battle with the Tesla Model Y and (until Polestar have something to offer in this class) the Volvo XC40 Recharge. And to really put them through their paces, we decided to stage our biggest triple test ever by reviewing them along the new SW660, a tourist route that has become the South West England equivalent of Scotland's NC500 encompassing Devon & Cornwall and the dramatic Jurassic Coastline. Who will be crowned our premium compact SUV of choice? The only way to find out was to subject all three cars to the full AutoEV road test to declare a winner.
