Riding behind Y112; Australia's Oldest Operational Steam Locomotive! Essendon - Flinders Street [4K]

On the 18th April 2026 Steamrail Victoria operated the Essendon Steam Shuttles with steam locomotives Y112 & K153. The train operated six shuttle trips between Essendon and Flinders Street on the Craigieburn Line. Y112 is not only Steamrail's oldest locomotive but also the oldest operational steam locomotive in Australia; having been built in 1889. In this video we ride behind Y112 as it hauls the transfer trip from Essendon to Newport via Flinders Street at the end of the day. I recorded the trip from Essendon to Flinders Street. We pass through various suburbs and stations along the way, wiggle our way through Spion Kop Junction & North Melbourne, and get waterside views of the Yarra River and the Southbank skyline as we approach Flinders Street station.
