GENERAL WALI KOTHI, LUCKNOW ::-- Situated on the right bank of the river Gomati, this double-storied palatial building was constructed under the rule of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan (C.E.1798-1814). The palace was meant for the accommodation of Commander-in-Chief or General; hence in course of time it came to be known as General's Kothi. Originally, the main entrance of the building was towards the river Gomati. Beautifully executed multi- foliated and horse-shoe arches, ventilation, fire-places and decoration represent the Indo-European palace architecture. Being stronghold of the revolutionaries, this building was damaged during the revolt of 1857. Therefore, evidence of repair during the British rule is evident in the building. This monument was taken into protection in 1920. Having acco- mmodated the office of Uttar Pradesh Police, this building was also known as S.P. Kothi but after taking the control, Archaeological Survey of India has carried out extensive conservation since 2010 intended to give its original shape. जनरल वाली कोठी , लखनऊ गोमती नदी के दाएं तट पर स्थित यह दोमंजिला इमारत नवाब सआदत अली खां ( 17798-1814 ई 0 ) के शासनकाल में बनाई गई थी । सेना प्रमुख या जनरल के निवास के रूप में प्रयुक्त होने के कारण कालान्तर में इसे जनरल वाली कोठी के नाम से जाना जाने लगा । इस इमारत का मुख्य प्रवेशद्वार मूलतः गोमती नदी की ओर था । चबूतरे बहुफलकीय एवं घोड़े की नाल के आकार की मेहराबों , रोशनदानों , आतिशदान एवं सजावट से युक्त यह स्मारक हिन्द यूरोपीय स्थापत्य का प्रतिनिधित्व करता है । 1857 की क्रांति के दौरान क्रांतिकारियों का गढ़ होने के कारण इस इमारत को अत्यधिक क्षति पहुंची । ब्रिटिश काल में किए गए जीर्णोद्धार के साक्ष्य इस इमारत में उपलब्ध हैं । इस स्मारक को 1920 में संरक्षण में लिया गया था । पूर्व में इस इमारत में पुलिस विभाग का कार्यालय होने के कारण इसे एस 0 पी 0 कोठी के नाम से भी प्रसिद्धि मिली । किंतु भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण को सौंपे जाने के पश्चात 2010 के दशक में बड़े पैमाने पर संरक्षण कार्य करके इसे मूल स्वरूप में लाने का प्रयास किया गया है
