I created this pattern to imitate various Ephemeridae genus, such as Hexagenia, Ephemera, and Litobrancha. Trout, steelhead, and smallmouth love them. It's soft and chewy so even soft mouthed fish can't refuse it. Burrowing mayfly nymphs are found in the soft, silty bottoms of both running and still waters. They can be found in large numbers. They have been known to burrow as deep as fifty feet. Burrowing mayfly nymphs are larger, ranging from 12-32 mm in length. Burrowing mayfly nymphs are largely carnivorous and collect their food either through predation or scavenging, but also graze on algae and detritus. The Ephemerid nymphs live underwater for up to two years (depending on species and water conditions) until they emerge as early adults called duns (or sub-imagos). Duns mature and transform into the final adult stage called spinners (imagos).
