All the images you are about to see were filmed in one of the most hostile and isolated regions on the planet, a region that sometimes requires braving 20-meter waves and enduring absolutely terrifying gales just to reach. As inhospitable as they may be, these grandiose, sublime, and intimidating landscapes are little corners of paradise for utterly fascinating animals, some of which are as much as 40% fat and, between gusts of wind, will show you their tonsils. And then there are the penguins that gather in immense colonies in these territories, some of the last wild sanctuaries on the planet—where nature still expresses itself without filter or label. But before I take you to discover these islands that seem to rise up in the middle of nowhere, I think I should first explain how I ended up here—in the middle of the Crozet archipelago, lost in the Southern Ocean—sandwiched between the wind belts of the Roaring Forties and the Furious Fifties. #mentalwalk #crozet #southernland
