The interview provides a rare, intimate and honest glimpse into the intergenerational and political dynamics within one Israeli family, a dynamic that largely reflects the broader Israeli story as a whole. Irit shares In her childhood experiences in Moshav Rinatia to pioneer parents who immigrated to Israel from Morocco in 1949, she completely shatters the accepted media narrative of deprivation, poverty and sectarian resentment. She candidly describes a rich and culturally rich home, which subscribed to the newspapers "Davar" and "Haaretz", a home that educated her to love the land, arduous work on the land, and a deep education in personal responsibility and helping others. She even recalls how her parents hosted African students to study agriculture, and how they treated the Arab laborers who worked with them with respect. The conversation then delves into questions of religion, culture and tradition. Irit explains in a fascinating way why she never defined herself as "secular" but rather as a traditionalist who lived a life of both sacred and profaneness, but she does not spare criticism of the exclusion of women she experienced as a child around the institution of the synagogue and the lack of access to the Jewish bookcase. She shares in the profound process of discovery The renewal of her Jewish identity, which was ignited in summer camps in the United States, and later in life was strengthened through Kabbalah studies and the cognitive thinking method of Yemima Avital, which she proudly teaches today. In the second and more turbulent part of the episode, the mother and son dive headfirst into the political and ideological disputes between them. Tamir, from the right and conservative side of the map, challenges his mother regarding her center-left political positions and her complex attitude towards the disengagement from Gush Katif. Irit, for her part, painfully explains her identification with the uprooting of the settlements following her experiences from facilitating dialogue groups with the women of Gush Katif, but sharply reasons why she demands state leadership and clean hands and rejects in all respects support for political figures with criminal records. Is it really possible to divide in a polar political sense and still sit together with respect and love at one Shabbat table? Why Irit believes that every citizen living in the country, including Arabs and Haredim, must take part in carrying the burden? And what did the first meeting between the Moroccan family and the Ashkenazi groom's family look like in the 1980s? All in the full episode.
