5-year-old Indianapolis girl runs away from school
Parent Trish Shrum believes her family is fortunate that her child who was supposed to be in her 11th day of kindergarten at IPS Christian Park School #82 made it through a more than half mile determined dash from the building on English Avenue to their house on Brookville Road. When asked what made her run out of school Wednesday morning, Mercades "Sadie" Shrum said: "because my teacher was gone." She loves her teacher and had warned the substitute and other staff that she was going to go home. The adults at the school were surprised to see her keep her word within minutes of the 9 a.m. start of class. Ms. Shrum said her daughter was home for about 15 minutes before anyone from the school showed up at her house.
