The people of Irpinia are distinguished by their simultaneously humble and proud nature. They are honest people who work with quiet dedication, but when they leave their homeland, they express to the world their pride in coming from this land. I leave a part of my heart here, and I carry with me, in my heart, a part of Irpinia. I hope to live up to it and to be able to express, wherever I go, the pride of having been a fellow Irpinia citizen. With these words, Colonel Domenico Albanese bid farewell to Avellino and Irpinia at the end of his two-year term as head of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri.
