BANGKAPOS.COM - US Central Command (CENTCOM) has acknowledged that its military has launched a series of attacks against Iran. Iranian state media reported several explosions around the Strait of Hormuz. These included attacks on Qeshm Island and the city of Sirik, and more in the key port city of Bandar Abbas. Regarding the attacks, the Iranian Foreign Ministry accused the US of repeatedly violating the agreed memorandum of understanding. Furthermore, Iran threatened retaliatory attacks, claiming to protect its national interests and security. "Iran issues a serious warning about the consequences of America's violation of the agreement, and will take decisive measures to protect its interests and national security," the Iranian Foreign Ministry said. Previously, CENTCOM claimed the attacks amid the peace deal occurred in response to Iranian attacks. Iran reportedly attacked three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Unnamed US officials claimed Washington targeted Iran's air defense systems. Furthermore, the US also targeted coastal surveillance systems, surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship cruise missiles, and drone launch sites. Meanwhile, the US attack was launched during the funeral procession for Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
