In this talk, Nivid Desai, an instructor in the undergraduate and postgraduate writing courses at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, will explore the transformative impact of generative AI and large language models (LLMs) on academic, technical, and creative writing. Drawing from firsthand experience where pedagogical practices have already begun incorporating these advanced tools, this talk explores how AI is reshaping how we approach writing and communication across disciplines. It offers insights into the ethical considerations, practical applications, and future possibilities of integrating AI-driven tools into educational practices, reshaping how we teach and learn communication skills. Bio: Nivid Desai is Program Executive at the Writing Studio, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGN). He teaches academic, creative and technical writing, critical thinking, and communication at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. He researches the intersections of writing, communication, and technology. Additionally, he serves on the board of studies at the Department of English, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Ahmedabad, where he advises on academic policy, designs curriculum, and directs research for undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He also coordinates the Learning Designers Community, a global platform spanning over 15 countries that offers training, upskilling, and networking opportunities for academics, educators, and learning practitioners.
