We walked from Betws-y-Coed to the Ugly House (and saw Swallow Falls for free)

You don't need the £2 turnstile to see Swallow Falls. We walked from Betws-y-Coed, past Miners' Bridge and through Gwydir Forest, to the free view of the falls, then carried on to the quirky 15th-century Ugly House. Here's the route, the parking and what to expect. 📍 parking: Pont-y-Pair car park, Betws-y-Coed (pay and display) 🥾 Route: riverside path along the Afon Llugwy to Miners' Bridge, then the north-bank forest path through Gwydir Forest, past the free view of Swallow Falls, on to Ty Hyll (the Ugly House) 📏 Distance / time: roughly 9 miles, around 3 hours plus stops, moderate with a bit of up and down 💷 Swallow Falls: £2 through the turnstile for the close-up platforms, or free from the forest path. We took the free view 🏚 The Ugly House (Ty Hyll): free to visit, run by the Snowdonia Society, with the Pot Mel tearoom and a honeybee centre. Opening is seasonal so check before relying on a cuppa 🐾 Dogs: fine on a lead, and the free falls view means you skip the awkward turnstile ☕ Food: cafes back in the village, plus the Ugly House tearoom if it's open Would you pay the £2 for the close-up, or take the free view like we did?
