#59 Porosity & Pore Structure | Introduction | Significance of Pore Distribution
Welcome to 'Characterization of Construction Materials' course ! This lecture introduces the concept of pore structure analysis, explaining different types of pores and their significance in materials. Learn about: The importance of pore structure in influencing material properties, such as permeability, durability, and strength. Different types of pores: Open pores: connected to the external surface, allowing for fluid flow. Closed pores: isolated within the material, not contributing to permeability. Ink-bottle pores: pores with a narrow neck and a wider body, influencing fluid entrapment and transport. Percolation threshold: the point at which a network of interconnected pores is formed, allowing for fluid flow through the material. NPTEL Courses permit certifications that can be used for Course Credits in Indian Universities as per the UGC and AICTE notifications.
