#59 Porosity & Pore Structure | Introduction | Significance of Pore Distribution
Welcome to 'Characterization of Construction Materials' course ! This lecture introduces the concept of pore structure analysis, explaining different types of pores and their significance in materials. Learn about: The importance of pore structure in influencing material properties, such as permeability, durability, and strength. Different types of pores: Open pores: connected to the external surface, allowing for fluid flow. Closed pores: isolated within the material, not contributing to permeability. Ink-bottle pores: pores with a narrow neck and a wider body, influencing fluid entrapment and transport. Percolation threshold: the point at which a network of interconnected pores is formed, allowing for fluid flow through the material.
