Paint a Blue Egyptian Lotus using Sumi-e Brush Painting Techniques in Watercolor
Loose Sumi‑e Inspired Egyptian Blue Lotus Watercolor (No Sketch, 20 Minutes) Hi, I’m Valerie Englehart, and in this video I paint a pair of Egyptian blue lotuses using my Rockwell Art watercolor palette in a loose, sumi‑e inspired style without a sketch. I start the petals with Angel Eyes and Palaiba Diamond Blue, then build buds, lily pads, and curved stems mainly with Onat Diamond Yellow and a darker green, Limu Green Brown, using confident stroke‑and‑lift brushwork on Arteza Expert 11x14 cold press paper. After letting everything dry naturally for richer blooms and less buckling, I switch to a thinner brush and add dark indigo line art with Cosmic Sound to define shapes. I deepen the lily pads with a few extra strokes, mention reusing paper for pattern work and scanning, and finish the painting in under 20 minutes, inviting you to like and subscribe for Thursday uploads.
