Her goal is to earn enough money to leave the planet and travel to the Core Worlds with her Merqaal companion, Nix. Through an unknown client, she lands a lucrative job, which partially goes awry, and during her escape, she accidentally comes into possession of the spaceship The Trailblazer. After a crash landing on Toshara, Kay takes on her first jobs for the criminal syndicates Crimson Dawn, the Pykes, and the Hutt Cartel to obtain the necessary spare parts for the ship. She is helped with the repairs by the Rodian Waka, who, however, betrays her. At the last moment, she is rescued by Jaylen Vrax and his BX-class commando droid, ND-5. He's planning "one of the biggest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen" and sends Kay—accompanied and monitored by ND-5—to recruit more members for the heist team.
