The Makassar Class A Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) added ships and aircraft to the search for victims of the KLM Nurul Salsa, which sank in the Polassi Sea, Selayar Islands, on Friday (July 17, 2026). The additional ships and aircraft are intended to expand the search area for victims who are still unaccounted for. On the third day of the operation, Basarnas deployed the KN SAR Kamajaya with 32 personnel on board (POB) to conduct a search in Sector II, covering an area of ​​approximately 90 nautical miles (nm²) in Selayar waters. Furthermore, the air force was strengthened by deploying a Boeing B737-200 aircraft from Sultan Hasanuddin Air Force Base, carrying 17 personnel (POB 17), to conduct an air search around the incident site to expand the monitoring coverage. Meanwhile, the KRI Marlin 877 continued search operations in Sector I, covering an area of ​​102 nm², as per the operational plan (Search and Rescue Planning/SARMAP). The Head of the Makassar Class A Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas), Muhammad Arif Anwar, stated that the additional sea and air forces were being implemented to optimize the chances of finding the remaining missing victims. "On the third day of the operation, we increased our search and rescue (SAR) efforts by deploying the KN SAR Kamajaya and a Boeing B737-200 aircraft from Sultan Hasanuddin Air Force Base. The search sector division was based on SARMAP analysis to ensure that all potential victim locations could be fully explored, both from the sea and the air," Arif explained in a press release to TribunSelayar.com. He added that the SAR operation was carried out in an integrated manner, involving all elements of the joint SAR team, including the Indonesian Navy, Indonesian Air Force, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Water Police, Harbor Master, Selayar Regional Operational Task Force (SROP), and local fishermen.
