Good tutorial for prepping your old guitar:    • How To Paint Your Guitar - Part 2   In this tutorial I will be showing you guys how I turned a plain wooden guitar base stock into a masterpiece. I start with sealing and preparing the wood with three coats of gesso, sanding between each coat. I then draw up my design with pencil on the guitar and show you how I layer acrylic paint to paint a realistic skull-themed artwork. I finish the back of the guitar by spraying it with Belton Molotow Premium spray paint. I seal the artwork with multiple coats of Rust-Oleum 2x Ultra Cover Clear.
