The study proposes that everted, fluttering flaps signify a tear that remains safely in the pre-equatorial region, allowing the procedure to continue. Conversely, inverted, non-fluttering flaps serve as a critical warning that the tear has extended beyond the equator, likely resulting in a capsular rent. By recognizing these visual cues, surgeons can better predict complications such as vitreous loss or nucleus drop. This diagnostic sign offers a practical framework for deciding whether to proceed with phacoemulsification or switch to alternative extraction methods.
