Trump delivers address to the nation on election security | FULL

U.S. President Donald Trump delivered an address to the nation on election security and government transparency Thursday evening, revisiting long-debunked conspiracy theories about his 2020 defeat to Democrat Joe Biden. The speech comes as he’s escalated his calls for Republicans to pass tighter federal voting rules ahead of November’s midterm elections. Trump claimed that "starting during the 2020 election cycle, the People's Republic of China carried out what is believed to be the largest compromise of election data in history, resulting in China's illicit acquisition of 220 million U.S. voter files." Trump then went on to accuse intelligence agencies, referencing them as the "deep state," of covering up China’s attempt to disrupt U.S. elections. However, Trump appointed the very people who led those intelligence agencies in 2020. Indeed, Trump was given the assessment from those agencies on Jan. 7, 2021, that no foreign country tried to change vote totals or fake ballots in the election.
