The father of the 8-year-old girl attacked by a jaguar during a hike in Chapada dos Veadeiros, in Alto Paraíso de Goiás, spoke for the first time about the case and disputed versions released after the incident. According to him, the child did not approach the animal and the jaguar was not cornered at the time of the attack. According to the account, the family was on a trail considered easy when the animal emerged from the vegetation and lunged directly at the girl, who was walking ahead of the group. The father stated that everything happened quickly and that the jaguar struck his daughter in the face before being driven away by the adults accompanying the hike. “The jaguar came out of the vegetation towards my daughter. It was all extremely fast. The animal grabbed her by the paws and threw her to the ground. Her mother, being nearby, ran towards Raíssa and scared the animal away. Even after we drove the animal away, it continued to pursue us,” he reported. The child was rescued, transferred to the Federal District, and underwent plastic surgery at the Asa Norte Regional Hospital. She was discharged this Tuesday (19) and continues her recovery alongside her family.
