Beginning next to the car park for Wendover Cricket Club, this exhilarating seven-and-a-half-mile walk embraces the rolling hills of Buckinghamshire with a series of steep climbs and sweeping descents. The journey starts with an ascent up Bacombe Lane, leading onto Bacombe Hill, where the rising path rewards me with breathtaking panoramas from Monument Hill at Trig Point S6207 (257m). From here, the route dips sharply toward Coombe, winding through open fields toward the quaint village of Ellesborough. The next challenge is Beacon Hill, its climb revealing vast views over the surrounding countryside before the path skirts past Chequers, the Prime Minister’s country residence, its stately presence standing quietly amid the landscape. The return leg traces the Ridgeway, guiding the way back to Coombe Hill’s elevated vantage before gradually descending along the opposite side of Bacombe Hill. With Wendover once again on the horizon, the walk concludes, a journey shaped by hills, history, and a landscape that never fails to inspire.
