Au procès du « violeur de Tinder »

On March 29, 2024, Salim Berrada was sentenced to 18 years in prison. In this highly publicized trial, the man nicknamed "the Tinder rapist" was accused by 17 plaintiffs and found guilty of 12 rapes and 3 sexual assaults. This seemingly extraordinary case, due to the number of victims, reveals much about a very common crime: rape. What were the modus operandi and defense of the "Tinder rapist"? How do these methods reflect the most commonplace forms of dominant masculinity? How did the judicial investigation unfold, and what does this reveal about how the police and the justice system handle cases of sexual violence? To analyze the trial of Salim Berrada, Victoire Tuaillon speaks with two journalists who covered this case for the newspaper Le Monde: Lorraine de Foucher and Henri Seckel. Together, they reflect on what the "Tinder rapist" case reveals about our society.
